It is with great pride that I announce our purchase of over eight (8) acres of property adjacent to the Destrehan Plantation site. This acquisition allows future expansion of our site and dedicated parking areas for our Fall Festival and other community events. Although our Fall Festival is not being held this year because of construction projects and a lack of parking space, it will return next year, bigger and better, with those much needed parking spaces.
We thank The Azby Fund for their donation of $350,000 for this purchase. The River Road Historical Society is responsible for raising additional funds for the balance of the purchase and construction of the parking area.
Our Holiday Gala scheduled Saturday, December 3, 2016 is our first fundraising event. You can find out more information about this event on our website or Facebook events page, or you may call our office at (985) 764-9315.
Additionally, we are accepting donations to assist us in raising the necessary funds for this important project, and as a non-profit organization, your donations are tax deductible.
For the past 45 years, the River Road Historical Society has owned Destrehan Plantation and restored it to its former glory. We are proud of our accomplishments and look forward to more exciting additions to our site.
